Patients and Carers

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The data comes from the 2024 National Audit of Care at the End of Life. It helps show how well hospitals cared for people who were dying, and how they supported families, friends, and carers during the person’s final hospital stay.

  • The data is updated once a year, usually in August.

  • No. This tool does not show those differences. That information is shared with the hospitals only via a restricted Data and Improvement Tool.

  • The data shows care given in hospitals between 1st January 2024 – 31st December 2024.

  • We show the data over a full 12 months. This helps protect people’s privacy and makes the results more useful when the numbers are small. Hospitals get more detailed results in a restricted reporting tool to help them make local improvements.

  • Only health and care staff from NHS hospitals that took part in the audit, and approved third parties, can access the restricted Data and Improvement Tool.

  • If data is missing, the tool will show a message that says: “Data not available.”

  • If the number is more than 0 but fewer than 20, we hide it to keep people’s information private.
